X-FILE

XHARKIE is the leader and creative core of Taiwan's only female-fronted melodic punk band, collaborates with sessions from Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. After the disbandment of the all-female punk band HOTPINK in 2014, XHARKIE launched her solo project. Her sound blends Melodic Hardcore, Ska, Punk Rock, and Alternative Rock, featuring explosive, childlike vocals over a fast-paced melodic punk foundation with ska rhythms, creating an intense, passionate atmosphere while bringing the spirit of riot grrrl culture to the Taiwanese music scene. This unique and striking contrast between her music and persona has earned her the nicknames of "Queen" and "Guru" among her Taiwanese music fans.

From a young age, XHARKIE was deeply influenced by her family background, with her musical and philosophical artistic education beginning at the age of five. She started her journey in the independent rock scene in Taiwan in 1997. In 2003, she co-formed HOTPINK, Taiwan’s youngest-ever all-female punk band. The band rapidly gained attention, making its debut on the massive main stage of Ho-Hai-Yan Festival. HOTPINK’s debut story was immortalized in the iconic Taiwanese music documentary film ‘Ocean Fever’, where XHARKIE appeared as one of the central characters. HOTPINK became a crucial figure in Taiwan's modern music history, chronicled in various magazines, books, and news articles. After rejecting all mainstream record label offers, HOTPINK remained fiercely independent, performing in major music festivals and live houses both domestically and internationally, including tours in China, Hong Kong, and Japan.

Following HOTPINK’s disbandment in the spring of 2014, XHARKIE immediately began working on her solo album ‘FRAGILE’, a compilation of her works from 1997 to 2017, spanning two decades. The album, which includes 12 tracks, captures the evolution of her music and personal growth, reflecting on the fragile aspects of self-awareness and self-transcendence over the years. The featured track ‘ONE WAY TICKET’ symbolizes her unwavering commitment to a singular path, while ‘FIRST SONG’, written in 1997, marks the very beginning of her journey. The album encapsulates her artistic evolution and defining life choices. During the album's production, XHARKIE toured Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan multiple times.

After six years of meticulous work, XHARKIE — who took on the roles of producer, songwriter, and art designer  —completed her debut album ‘FRAGILE’, which was released independently on August 31, 2020, in physical format only. Three and a half years later, on March 15, 2024, the album was released in digital streaming format by the Japanese label HOWLING BULL.

Since August 2022, XHARKIE has stepped away from all public music activities and has been working behind the scenes while continuing her music journey. As a multidisciplinary artist, she is currently developing new projects in music, painting ( as HOTCOCOAZOO ), and her fashion brand.
